For better academic exchange and cooperation and active academic atmosphere, the Research Institute of Intelligence Technology and System Integration invited two IEEE Fellows, i.e. Professor Tan Kay Chen from City University of Hong Kong and professor Yiu-ming Cheung from Hong Kong Baptist University, to take part in the academic exchange in our premise. They delivered reports titled “Computational Intelligence in Condition-Based Maintenance Applications” and “Class Imbalance Learning - Problem, Modelling and Challenges”, respectively, on the morning of June 12, 2018. The seminar was hosted by Professor Zexuan Zhu and attended by more than 30 teachers and students from our College of Computer Science & Software Engineering, College of Information Engineering and College of Medicine.
In his report, Professor Tan Kay Chen introduced the application of computational intelligence in aeroengines’ aided design, remaining life prediction and surface quality testing, and discussed the method for improving the prediction accuracy in a deep belief network integration model with help of the multi-objective optimization algorithm.
In his report, Professor Yiu-ming Cheung introduced the classification and application of imbalances and the ways to classify imbalances using HSBACG, G-Mead optimized Boosting and DWMIL. The teachers and students on site exchanged intensively and actively with both professors on the seminar and take pictures with them after the seminar.
Professor Tan Kay Chen was granted the doctor’s degree of University of Glasgow in 1997. Since then, he had taught in National University of Singapore. He is now a professor of the Department of Computer Science of City University of Hong Kong, an IEEE Fellow, an outstanding lecturer of IEEE, the chief editor of IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation and a member of the management committee of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society. He is mainly engaged in the researches about artificial (computational) intelligence, machine learning, multi-objective optimization application, etc.

Professor Yiu-ming Cheung is a doctor’s degree holder of School of Computer Science and Engineering, The University of Hong Kong, and is now a professor of Department of Computer Science of Hong Kong Baptist University, an IEEE Fellow, a guest editor or associate editor of periodicals of IEEE neural network and learning system, information system, pattern recognition, and so on, the founder president of Hong Kong IEEE Computational Intelligence Society And the president of the technical committee of the intelligent information science of IEEE Computer Society. He is principally engaged in machine learning, pattern recognition, image & video processing and optimization, etc.
